For some, eyelashes are naturally resplendent, lush and long, offering the perfect frame to accentuate the eyes. But for many, eyelashes are simply far too short or fair, and could really benefit from a touch of cosmetic boosting to achieve their ideal look. One of the latest lash enhancement techniques is the eyelash tattoo – a simple yet incredibly effective semi-permanent makeup option. Here are a few things you should know about this treatment before you decide.
What is Lash Enhancement?
This is where a technician uses a special device to manually deposit pigment along the top lash line to give the illusion of fuller, darker, and thicker eyelashes.
How Does the Lash Enhancement Procedure Work?
After consulting on exactly what look you’re hoping to achieve from the procedure and choosing the correct pigmentation to match your skin tone, the technician will apply a numbing cream to the area to prevent any discomfort. Then you will close your eyes while the eyelids are smoothed. The technician then uses the tattoo pen machine to apply the pigment to the eyelid. If you prefer, there can be a subtle line applied to the bottom lid as well. There is often somewhat of a tickling sensation during the procedure, and it takes around 90 minutes from start to finish.
* Please note that if you have lash extensions, these will need to be removed prior to the lash enhancement procedure.
What is The Effect of The Lash Enhancement?
There is a reason that this form of semi-permanent eyeliner is so popular today – the results are fantastic. Such a simple line will make your eyelashes appear much fuller and darker. It will be impactful, yet appear natural, resulting in what’s known as an eye-opening effect.
Who is a Candidate for Lash Enhancement?
If you’re concerned about the fullness or definition of your lashes, then you’re a good candidate for the lash enhancement tattoo. Those suffering from a medical hair loss condition like alopecia can get it done after consulting with an optometrist. However, some people that might need a medical consult ahead of treatment or who would be unlikely candidates are:
- People suffering from keloid
- People suffering from glaucoma
- People who’ve recently had eye surgery or are about to have eye surgery
What Can I Expect After the Lash Enhancement Procedure?
As with many medical tattoo procedures, the pigmented area will typically appear much darker for the first 10 days to two weeks after the treatment has been done. This could result in some redness and swelling before the skin begins to heal. Your technician will provide you with aftercare treatment options, but you can also apply ice to the affected area, or black tea bags soaked in cold water for around 5 to 10 minutes to reduce the swelling. You must keep the area clean and dry while it’s healing, and it’s advised that you don’t apply any eye makeup to the affected area for the first week.
If cared for, the lash enhancement tattoo can last up to five years, saving you time and money on eyeliner and mascara. Find out more by getting in touch with us today.
